I had been interested in creating a piece based on the private activities we do to make ourselves feel better, so I called around to a number of friends to find out what they did. To my surprise, quite a few people responded that they dance alone in their rooms. 

I set out to keep this activity exclusive while putting it on display. There are sometimes people in our lives who I want too much of our privacy, so I wanted to reinforce the idea of this being something that is not meant to be understood or shared. The audience could get two glimpses of the performance: they could see without hearing or hear without seeing. I didn’t want them to ever get the full picture.
